Dear Colleague

EFAD is preparing a report on ‘The role of the Dietitian in effective health promotion to reduce health inequalities‘.

It is our aim that health promotion specialist dietitians throughout Europe will work together with the EFAD Project Officer on this report, which will be presented to the European Specialist Dietetic Network for Health Promotion when it meets at the DIETS/EFAD conference (26 October 2012 in Slovenia) as a starting point to enable an exchange of views and experiences.

It is our intention to do a pan-European investigation about what dietitians are already doing and what they can and should do in relation to effective health promotion to reduce health inequalities. Eventually this will lead to the development of a description of minimum standards and competences required of dietitians working in this specialist field.

In the attachment you will find the second draft report about ‘The role of the dietitian in effective health promotion to reduce health inequalities’.

There are several areas in which we need more information.  Please be so kind as to tell us:

  1. Any examples of dietitians being involved in health promotion in your country (we only have 8 countries responding so far!)

  2. Any evidence of the effectiveness of the dietitian in this field would be particularly welcome.

  3. Any references to research on the cost-saving role of the dietitian in the health promotion.

  4. If anything is missing from the report.

Please provide your reply before10 September 2012so that I can prepare the final report for discussion/acceptance by the Specialist Network workshop in Slovenia.

We would also like to invite you to the European Specialist Dietetic Network for Health Promotion Dietitians workshop which will be part of the DIETS/EFAD conference.

Kindest regards
